In the middle of the Salisbury Plain in County Wiltshire is located one of the greatest monuments in the history – Stonehenge. It is a circle of stones, each of them huge over ten meters tall and with more than five tonnes of weight. Inside the circle, there are stones even bigger from the others.
The big questions about this monument are, “How did people of that time lift this stones with no machines in the past?”, “How did they take them from Wales with no trains and lorries?” and “Why was Stonehenge build for?”. There are many theories about these questions. Some scientists think that it was a prehistoric cathedral made for the God of the sun, others that it was a calendar and an astronomical observatory. There are no proven records how the stones traveled 200 kilometers, but a theory says that people were putting the stones on round wooden beams and after that, they were rolling the stones forward using them as tires. When the last wooden beam went away from the stone from the behind, they took the beam and put it in front of the stone, so the beam can go under it again. That’s how the stones were rolled from Wales to the plain.
Stonehenge was built on three stages, during a period of a thousand years. People were digging holes into the ground and the stones were going inside with the one end. Using a crossbar and ropes, they pulled the other end of the stone, so it could stay up. No one knows how the top stones went there, but a legend says that thousands of years ago, aliens came on our planet and lifted the stones up with their power of the mind.
